The plot of Kick-Ass involves a normal teenager, Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), who is inspired by comic book heroes to become a real-life superhero. Lizewski first attempt to fight crimes fails and he ends up very badly hurt due to that failure (this results in a short hospital stay after being stabbed). Dave is still unmoved by this small step back, and ends up coming between a fight outside a diner. He fights them with two modified night sticks and wins. In the diner, a man who had captured the sequence on his phone asks Dave about himself when the fight concludes. Dave answers: "I'm Kick-Ass". When the video is posted on the Internet and becomes an instant sensation, Kick-Ass is catapulted to stardom.

His efforts at superhero-dom make him realize that the profession isn't all it's cracked up to be. After awhile he comes across Hit-Girl (Chloe Moretz), a mysterious young vigilante, and her dad, Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage). Via YouTube and the media, they already knew the adventures of Kick-Ass. In the end they got together to defeat Frank D'Amico, the local crime syndicate leader. En route, Kick-Ass encounters another defender, Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), who has been impressed with Kick-Ass's deeds.

Review:
For a comedy, the acting was more than adequate, but the humor is laugh-out-loud all the way to create a film that's simply kick-ass. The story is one crazy ride that blew me away with its hilarity from scene to scene. This one knocks the top super-hero films out of the box. I don't believe that Kick-Ass has any equals among movies this season.

"Kick-Ass" (from the Mark Millar and John Romita Jr's Marvel Comic serial publication bearing that name.)

In a movie industry filled with own-grown hype, gimmicks, and lack of original ideas, "Kick Ass" explodes onto the screen and breaks all expectations in its wake. "Kick Ass" doesn't want to be just good or above average, "Kick Ass" wants to be the greatest and it has the balls to be one of a kind. Virtually impossible to do in a done to death genre but "Kick Ass" is all about expecting the unexpected.

Kick Ass review"Kick Ass" is a true cinematic triumph in that it maintains simplicity but manages to blow you away. Allow the characters to do neat things, instead of Michael Bay-esquire things always happening to them. Even though Dave lives a humdrum life, they are amazingly cool. This is a regular guy doing what we could do if we so desired; it's not someone from an alternate reality or who has a lot of ambition and drive. Dave needs a girlfriend. He wishes he was cool. The bad guy is so believable. Seeing the whirlwind known as Hit Girl act out a scenario practically right out of Jackie Chan's Hong Kong era shocks us as no big screen chase scene ever could. Visually the movie takes the whole thing we did love from the films which failed to zing altogether and stirs them into a perfectly balanced unblemished mixture.

I came away thinking this move was a blend of "Kill Bill and "Spider-Man." It has its usual typical-kid-deals-with-life-scenarios, while Peter Parkerish "nobody" Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson) fantasizes of something beyond his bland teenage life. Ultimately, as many youngsters that age do, he intends to make his mark in life by... putting on a costume and fighting bad guys. Just when we're getting used to the notion that, naturally, this isn't going to be successful and that he'll get beat up every time, he begins to learn how to better his chances, and that he's not all alone in his mission.

Which then moves on to the movie's crazy, over-the-top part, best demonstrated by everybody's newest favorite manga heroine, "Hit-Girl". Her portrayal of the operatic, homicidal, spaghetti-western character is so gleefully infectious that you look forward to her every appearance.

The actors are generally secondary in films this awesome - which any James Cameron flick proves. Not any of it. Nicholas Cage goes back to his glory days of playing grander than life odd characters, but with a hint of sadness as well. He is joined by Chloe Moretz who is fated to be linked always with this debut big movie part. Aaron Johnson's job is hardest. He takes the helm of this film as if he scripted it, along with a cast that is completely brought to life. It is a great ensemble. A radical bunch of acting styles creating an ideal one and working well with the film's lighthearted style.

In the final analysis, watching "Kick Ass" is akin to riding a roller coaster. It doesn't want to merely impress you; it wants you to become involved, and leave the theater feeling exhilarated. And it doesn't accomplish that with tricks or old and tired formulas, it shatters the Kick Arse costumemold, shakes traditions and wants you to be awed while complementing all the movies you've previously seen and loved. It isn't merely a film, it's a standard, one which decides to prove that movies such as this can be scripted with compassion and intelligence.

I had so much fun, you should go too.
